Contest Entry

By entering a contest, a user agrees to be bound by these Rules and by the Terms of Use.  All decisions made by Daily Joust regarding contests, scoring, and prizes are final and binding.  All contests offered on Daily Joust are games of skill and any use of the Daily Joust website or contests for gambling purposes is prohibited.  In order to register for any real money contest you must have enough cash or Bonus Bucks in your Daily Joust account at the time of registration.  The contest entry fee will be deducted from the your account at that time you confirm your registration by submitting a team.  You can edit previously submitted teams prior to the starting time of the contest, at which time entries are locked.  Once you have submitted a team, the entry cannot be cancelled, only edited.  All users are presented with the same set of players, salaries, and salary constraints prior to the start of a specific contest.  If the posted maximum number of entrants, as noted on the specific Contest Details, for a contest is obtained at any point during the registration process, the contest will then be closed to new registrants.  Certain tournament-style contests allow for multiple team entry by a single user, as noted on the specific Contest Details.  Each team entry by a user in a single multiple-entry contest requires a separate entry fee.

Ineligible Fantasy Teams

All fantasy teams selected for Daily Joust cash entry contests must not consist entirely of players from a single team, game, or event.  The team registration process on Daily Joust will indicate when a team is not in compliance with this rule and will not allow entry of the team.  If for any reason, a team entered into a contest does consist entirely of players from a single team, game or event that team will be disqualified from the contest.  Disqualified teams will not be eligible for any prizes for that contest and users will not be refunded any entry fees associated with the contest.

Contest Cancellation

Daily Joust will cancel any contest if the minimum number of entrants, as noted on the specific Contest Details, is not obtained prior to the start of the contest, at which point all registered users will be notified of the cancellation.  Daily Joust reserves the right to cancel any contest at any time in the event that any real-world games or events are cancelled, suspended, or postponed.  Daily Joust reserves the right to cancel at any time any contests that have no entrants.  Daily Joust will make all cancellation decisions at its sole discretion.  Any user registered for a cancelled contest will receive a full refund of their entry fee.  Daily Joust is not responsible for any losses, expenses, or liability incurred to the user due to the cancellation of any contest.

Official Scoring

Live scores and statistics for teams and individual players can be viewed on the contest home page while the contest is running.  All live scoring on Daily Joust is solely for your enjoyment.  Although quite accurate, the scores shown are not official and are to be used for informational purposes only.  Players will score points based on their performance in the game that occurs on the date of the contest they are registered for.  If a real-world game is cancelled or not played for any reason, they will receive zero points for that game.  If a real-world game is postponed or suspended and subsequently resumed more than 12 hours later, any statistics accumulated after the resumption will not count toward the player’s point total for the contest.  In the event of an in-game suspension where player statistics are official and will be counted towards their season totals, and an official box score is delivered via our feed prior to two hours after the last game in that contest end, the fantasy scoring based on the official statistics will be counted.  Once official scores have been posted and the contest is listed as recently finished, completed, or past any further scoring changes will not affect the scores or prizes of any contest.  It is the user’s responsibility to be aware of possible postponements or cancellations and adjust their fantasy teams as required prior to the start of the contest.

MLB scoring is as follows:

Scoring for hitting (C, 1B/DH, 2B, 3B, SS, OF)

Total Bases (TB) = 1 pt for each base (Single = 1, Double = 2, Triple = 3, Home Run = 4)

Hit (H) = 1 pt
Run Scored (R) = 2 pts
Run Batted In (RBI) = 2 pts
Stolen Base (SB) = 2 pts
Walk (BB) = 1 pt
Hit By Pitch (HBP) = 1 pt
Sacrifice (SAC) = 1 pt
Strike Out (SO) = minus 1 pt
Grounded Into Double Play (GIDP) = minus 1 pt

Scoring for pitching (SP or P)

Inning Pitched (IP) = 1 pt for every out (i.e. 3 pts for each IP)
Strike Out (SO) = 1 pt
Earned Runs (ER) = minus 2 pts
Hit (H) = - minus 1 pt
Walk (BB) = minus1 pt
Hit Batsman (HBP) = minus 1 pt
Win (W) = 7 pts

Pitchers do not receive points for hitting, and hitters do not receive points for pitching.

In the case of MLB double headers, where a real-world team plays more than one game in a single day AND both games are included in the contest, batters will only be eligible to receive points for their performance in the FIRST game of the double header.  Starting pitchers (SP) will be eligible to receive points in the first, if any, game they actually make a start.

NCAA College Football (CFB) and NFL scoring:

Offensive statistics (QB/RB/WR/TE):

Passing TD = 4 pts
Every 25 passing yards = 1 pt
Interception thrown = -2 pts
Rushing TD = 6 pts
Every 10 rushing yards = 1 pt
Receiving TD = 6 pts
Every 10 receiving yards = 1 pt
Reception = 0.25 pts
Return TD = 6 pts
Offensive Fumble TD = 6 pts
2 pt conversion pass, run, or conversion = 2 pts
Fumble lost = -2 pts

Kicking statistics (K):

Extra point = 1
Field goal yards = 0.1 (e.g. a 35 yd FG is worth 3.5 pts)

Defensive statistics (DEF):

Sack = 1 pt
Interception = 2 pts
Fumble Recovery = 2pts
Touchdown = 6 pts
Safety = 2 pts
Blocked kick = 2 pts (note that in CFB, blocked punts do NOT count)
Kickoff or punt return TD = 6 pts

Shutout = 10 pts
1-6 points allowed = 7 pts
7-13 points allowed = 4 pts
14-20 points allowed - 1 pt
21-27 points allowed = -1 pt
28-34 points allowed = -4 pts
35 or more points allowed = -7 pts

Players are only eligible to receive points in the category slot they are selected at. For DEF, all points allowed by the opposing team, regardless of personnel on the field at the time, count as a point allowed.

Passing/Rushing/Receiving yards are actually awarded on a per yard basis, not all at once every 25/10 yards;  e.g. player is awarded .7 points for a 7 yard run or reception.  So in football, there are fractional points in the scoring, to the second decimal place (e.g. .04 for a passing yard).

Football scoring is the same in NFL and CFB, with the exception that blocked punts are not awarded points in CFB..

In both CFB and NFL, overtime stats DO count and are included in real life box scores.

NHL Scoring:

Skaters:

Goal (even strength or empty net) = 8 pts

PP/SH Goal = 11 pts

Assist (even strength or empty net) = 5 pts

PP/SH Assist = 7 pts

Shot on Goal = 1 pt

Plus/Minus = +1/-1 pts

Penalty Minutes = 1 pt per minute

Hit = 1 pt

Blocked Shot = 1 pt

Team Goalies:

Goals Allowed = (-6 pts)

Saves = 1 pt

Win (in regulation or OT) = 5 pts

Shootout Win = 3 pts

Shutout = 5 pts

Skater stats do not include goalie offensive or penalty stats.  OT stats do count, Shoot Out stats do not, except for the Team Goalie Shootout win.

Empty net goals count both for and against the teams and players scoring them.

The Team Goalie is credited for a shutout if the team allows their opponent no goals.  The final score is used to determine the Team Goalie goals against, but the goal awarded to the winning team in the shootout is NOT credited against the losing Team Goalie this season.

NBA Scoring:

Scoring is the same for all NBA positions, as follows.

Point scored = 1

Rebound = 1

Assist = 1

Blocked Shot = 2

Steal = 2

Turnover = (minus 1)

OT stats are included as well.

NCAA College Basketball (CBB) scoring:

1 pt scored = 1 pt

(e.g. Free Throw Made = 1, Field Goal Made = 2, 3 Point Field Goal Made = 3)

Given the lack of available live statistical coverage of regular season college basketball games, points scored is the only statistic we are using.

Prize Disbursement

All completed contests on Daily Joust will pay the guaranteed prizes that are shown on the contest homepage (Contest Details) in advance of the contest.  In the event of a tie for any of the prize positions, the prize will be divided equally among those tied.  Prizes will be credited after Daily Joust receives the feed of the final game or event’s official box score, typically within one to six hours after the last game.  Daily Joust reserves the right to delay the prize disbursement to the following business day at our sole discretion.

Tie-breakers

In the event of a tie between two or more teams for a prize position, the following tie-breaker rules are used to determine the prize disbursement.

As part of a specific multi-player contest’s entry, Daily Joust may require the user to answer a tie-breaker question (e.g. How many points will my fantasy team score?).  In the event of a tie for prize positions, the tied user closest to the actual number wins the higher prize position.

In Solo contests there is no tie-breaker, the user either achieves the target or not.

In Head-To-Head (aka Heads Up) contests, ties are attempted to be broken by the following algorithm:

1. highest individual player score, next highest, etc down to the last player
2. if above doesn’t break tie, it is a tie and users split the prize

In League contests, ties are attempted to be broken by the following algorithm:

1. lowest difference between actual score and tie-breaker question, if any
2. for remaining tied users, highest individual player score, next highest, etc down to the last player
3. if above doesn’t break tie, it is a tie and users split the prize
